Mole rat milk

On lists of the world's ugliest animals, the naked mole rat is always near the top. Is also one of the world's strangest: a mammal that lives in colonies underground with a single queen that gives birth to all of the young. Analyzing the queens' milk was important for the research of biologist and nutritional ecologist Olav Oftedal. Working at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center in Edgewater, Maryland, U.S., he had access to the naked mole rats at the National Zoo. And those queens gave him unprecedented access to their milk. He explains why the experience differed from other animals he has milked: The thin, hairless skin is so translucent that you can see the milk accumulating in the mammary glands.”
