Jelly shredders

If you see a coordinated group of these machines on the water, do not be alarmed – unless you are a jellyfish! The newly developed and tested Jellyfish Elimination Robotic Swarm (JEROS) will chew you up and spit you out. South Korean robotics professor Hyun Myung and his team have invented a solution to the proliferating blobs that clog up the intake to seaside power plants, cause drastic losses to fisheries, and damage other marine infrastructures and ecosystems. “Once jellyfish are detected using a camera, the jellyfish removal scenario is started…" explains Dr. Myung (VIDEOS HERE). The animals are sliced and diced to become food for loggerhead turtles and their other natural predators. Hopefully, this will prevent them from swarming inland toward human swimmers, especially since their detached tentacles retain the ability to sting.
