Animal accidents

I learned a new icky word on the radio on the way home from work. Until now, the ugliest animal word I knew was flensing. Now I am familiar with snarge. The interview I heard was with Carla Dove, one of a team of scientists at the Smithsonian Institution who identify which species of bird has hit an airliner by examining the goo it leaves behind. The team will examine any snarge found in/on the jet that made an emergency water landing on the Hudson River in New York yesterday. They will confirm, if they can, that the plane struck a flock of geese.

Speaking of dead animals, I read a great book this Fall: Flattened Fauna: A Field Guide to Common Animals of Roads, Streets, And Highways. It reads like a parody, but is based on science. It's as funny as the picture of the roadkill stripe, but even funnier than roadkill recipes!
