Bird ballet

The photo above shows a "murmurration" of starlings performing their synchronized aerial ballet in the sky above Utrecht, Netherlands. A group of statistical physicists figured out the how, but GrrlScientist explains the why: "Birds form these large flocks to protect themselves from predators, to share information regarding food sources, and to find mates for the upcoming breeding season."
