Meat math

Scottish golfer Elliot Saltman (pictured above in 2011 and 2010) played in the Madrid Masters, which wrapped up this weekend. He didn't win the tournament, but he did get a hole-in-one. On another hole he would have received a car, but his prize for acing the 204yd par-3 3rd hole at El Encin Golf Hotel was...(drumroll, please)...his weight in pork! Basing the amount on the weight listed on his official European Tour profile (108kg), the 6'4" Saltman wins 238lbs of ham. "This is going to last me until next Christmas, never mind this one," said the 29-year-old golfer. He is a bit shy of the mark. According to my calculations - based on the annual average per capita consumption of pork in the European Union (43.9kg/96.783lbs) - it will last him until April 2014! Plenty to share, but it could have been even more, according to Saltman: "I've been trying to lose weight, but now I'm thinking I should have just kept it."
