Giverny

I planned the itinerary when my friend Cris and I went to France in 1999. We slogged through the Paris catacombs and did a self-guided tour of Père Lachaise Cemetery. We also went to less morbid tourist destinations like the Louvre (where I found it more exciting to see this painting than the Mona Lisa) and the Eiffel Tower (conveniently close to the Musée de l'Homme). But our diversion to the garden of Claude Monet (1840-1926) at Giverny was pure sensual pleasure, which shows on Cris's face as we drank in the fragrance of so many flowers in bloom (click on 1st image). It is easy to see why the French impressionist drew so much inspiration from this place (click on my photos above for a corresponding painting).
