Anatomical art

I got an e-mail last night from my friend Cris, who just moved to Allentown, Pennsylvania. She told me about an exhibit there called "The Fine Arts Examine the Medical Arts." The show runs through July 2nd at the Baum School of Art, and features 6 artists, including Kathleen Newman, Scott Tallman Powers and Ken DeWaard. The subject of the works by Powers and DeWaard (featured) is the first human dissection medical students face in their Gross Anatomy course. DeWaard entitles his oil painting "Anticipation - The First Incision" and writes, "In looking back many doctors feel this was the most memorable moment in their doctoring profession." Did you know, by the way, that dissection is a general term, but prosection refers to dissection by a professional as a demonstration to students?
