Oldest zoo in the world

Tiergarten Schönbrunn on the grounds of the Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna was founded as an imperial menagerie in 1752 (opened free to the public in 1778), making it the oldest zoo in the world. The Tiergarten received its first elephant in 1770, wolves and bears in 1781, and the first polar bears, big cats, hyenas and kangaroos in 1800. In 2007, their pair of pandas on loan from China had the first baby panda to be born in Europe since 1982. Click here for a great panda video. Click here for the "Crazy Cat Lady" counterpart!
