A treasure trove of antique miniature books from a family collection is being auctioned off by Bamfords Auctioneers in Derby, U.K., at a 3-Day Antiques and Fine Art Sale this week. The tiny books, by definition under 3 1/8" in height, width, and thickness, include the following:
- 1896 Holy Bible (1st and 2nd images), 40mm, 376pp., published in Glasgow with engraved plates, a gilt-stamped Moroccan leather binding, and a magnifying glass in a rear pocket (valued at £200-300).
- 1896 Book of prayers and poems, 258pp., with fine foil-stamped binding
- 1842 London Almanack, with listings of gold prices and shipping charges, and fold-out charts
- 1810 Bijou Picture of London, or The Gems of the Metropolis, 30mm tall with 31 engravings of London landmarks (valued at £150-200)
- 1812, Bijou Picture of Paris (3rd image), also 30mm with 31 engravings (valued at£150-200)
- 1810 Alfred Mills, Natural History of 48 Birds, 48 engraved plates, Moroccan leather binding, (valued at £60-80)
- 1841 The Liliputian Sacred Annual, loose pages, 40mm x 30mm
- n.d. C. Duff, The Life of Abraham, cloth cover with gilt, 45mm x 30mm
- 1904 Charles Dickens, The Chimes: A Goblin Story, reverse calf binding, 50mm x 35mm
- n.d. Sir Walter Scott, The Lady of the Lake, Moroccan leather gilt binding, 50mm x 35mm
- n.d. William Moodie, Editor, More Old Scotch Songs, Moroccan leather gilt binding, 80mm x 25mm
