Auroras

I wanted to confirm that the aurora borealis (northern lights) and the aurora australis (southern lights) differ only by hemisphere, since the phenomenon occurs near the poles. I offer links to videos north and south, the two photographs above, and this incredible image of an aurora from space:
I saw the northern lights through the window of an airplane coming back from Seattle one time. In my momentary research, I learned that attention was brought to auroras by Benjamin Franklin. And after watching the first video, I wish we could magically harness their energy, but not by lessening their beauty.
