Hobbit houses

Hobbit houses - you either love 'em or hate 'em. I happen to find them as wonderful as treehouses. There are hobbit houses to be found at the Glaumbær Museum in Varmahlid,
Iceland. You can stay overnight at the Hobbit House of Montana in Trout Creek. If you prefer to own, there is a hobbit house on the market near Black Mountain, North Carolina, and more earth dwellings listed here.

A few hobbit houses that caught my eye are shown above:
  • Hobbiton Village in Matamata, New Zealand, where "Lord of the Rings" was filmed, is not inhabited - except by sheep (1st and 2nd images)
  • An environmentally-friendly woodland home in west Wales, built at a cost of roughly £60/sq m excluding labor (3rd image)
  • The hobbit house in the Children's Garden, one of the features at the Oregon Garden in Silverton (4th image)
  • A privately-owned hobbit house in Culver City, California (5th image)
  • A hobbit house as an example of naturalist architecture (6th image)
  • One of the hobbit homes occupied by a community of environmentalists in Pembrokeshire, Wales (7th image)

  1. If I ever have kids I will build them one of these instead of a tree house! And center a garden around it!
