Bird moment
Forget the French hens, turtle doves, and partridge. My friend Cris has been visiting all week and fishes off the dock across the street, which she likes to do at dawn (1st image, photo taken by Cris). The other morning, she was about to cast her line when 3 tiny birds flew under her fishing pole and a 4th alit on the pole itself before joining its friends. Consulting a book of Florida's birds, we determined they were swamp sparrows (2nd image), which live in wetlands. They have "strikingly rusty" wings and "respond readily to any squeaking noise." She did not summon them by squeaking, but did hear them chirp (listen here) during her Marlin Perkins moment.
