Lowland gorillas and an orangutan

For your pleasure (and mine), a post about great apes. On the cover of the Washington Post this morning was the news that the gorilla at the National Zoo, Mandara, gave birth yesterday in full view of visitors and a zoo volunteer (link on photo at top). The baby gorilla pictured is named Ubwuzu and he came into my family this Christmas: thanks to my sister and family, my Dad and Sarah became adoptive parents! "Hope he grows up to be a kindly silverback," says Dad. Lastly, reported in the weird news is an orangutan named Bonnie, who has picked up whistling!
